We South Magazine Launch @ VANART

Monday, December 8, 2014

We South Magazine is made by UWS students, the magazine aims to showcase the home-grown creative talent that the university has to offer. The publication is a great way to offer design students exposure and connections to the design community.

Vanart held their first event called The Station at the creative space at the Central Living Mall. They are a group of passionate, like-minded creatives who are determined to push boundaries and encourage collaboration and unity in the world of film, dance, art and music through innovative projects and events. The station is a social night for all musicians, artists, film makers, dancers, actors and other home-grown talent to come together as one to hang out, show their work and collaborate with other like-minded creative. Vanart describes The Station as “The pit stop where creative minds collaborate.” What drew me into attending this event in the first place, was the launch of UWS’ own We South Magazine. The night consisted of nine short film screenings by film makers around Sydney, art exhibitions from new and up and coming artists, local DJs, live jam sessions throughout the night, where anyone that had an instrument could join in, along with live performances, and to end the night, there were live acrobats jumping and spinning through the air. Snacks and drinks provided. The night really brought together the Sydney design community. There are many networking opportunities if you put yourself out there. After seeing what they had in store, I will definitely be attending the next event.
